《Labyrinths, threads, birds.》彙集了不同的故事,包括牛頭人米諾陶洛斯的迷宮、被囚禁在迷宮的阿里阿德涅線、芥川龍之介的《蜘蛛之絲》、以及莫里斯梅特林克的《青鳥》。當這些故事的內容層層堆疊,我們也可以從其中的相似之處尋得作者的巧思:從迷宮、或地獄、或病痛中逃離,並迎向光明。


身為去年大放異彩的年輕藝術家,水上愛美(b. 1992)立即進入了2022年平面繪畫大獎VOCA展,並與知名藝術家桑久保徹舉辦雙個展、出版個人首本畫冊《catharsis bed》。水上愛美的創作引用神話,並以混合了古老沙漠沙粒的沙膏進行塗抹,刻意將中間層繪製的畫面塗至全不可見,使繪畫如同沉澱時間與影像的化石。

材質的特殊性彰顯了藝術家對色彩、線條、層次的能力,使畫面呈現前所未有的視覺觸感。這樣特殊的手法,出自水上愛美對於繪畫史的考證,無論是回應杜象或恩斯特對幻影或殘影的探討,亦或波洛克對紗繪的應用。最後,纖細的人形在畫面中演出曖昧的故事軸,也讓人聯想超現實主義中經常出現超乎人類形象的主體。
